Restaurant Spotlight: Ginger Thai at Main Street Cedar Falls IA

August 18, 2019

Delicious food excites me as a child opening gifts on a crisp Christmas morning. Each treasured culinary find lingers indelible memories of mouthwatering delights and enticing gastronomic feasts that motivates my trotters to roam in search of delectable edibles everywhere my travels take me.

Never thought to have stumbled upon such culinary greatness in a place so close to home.

Ginger Thai, a modest eatery situated in Main Street Cedar Falls Iowa, brings authentic Thai dishes to the Cedar Valley locale. By authentic, I mean getting all the Thai flavors simply spot on.

Thai cuisine is characteristically made with seemingly simple ingredients brimming with strong umami flavors and a robust aromatic edge. Each dish skillfully prepared with an intricate balance of color, flavor and spice. Like a well conducted orchestra, every flavor is distinct, but when put-together culminates a rather impeccable harmony of flavors that can only be described as phenomenal.

Walking in with high expectations and personal standards of Thai cuisine, Ginger Thai has managed to set the bar even higher. The place might seem like your mediocre “hole-in-the-wall” restaurants, but the food quality screams otherwise.

Menu is quite modest as well with offerings of appetizers, noodle & rice dishes, curries, soups and stir-fry varieties. Spice lovers, you’re in luck. You can customize your meal with spice levels to your liking with your own spice level of 1 through 5 (hottest). You can check their menu by clicking here.

Everything we ordered is downright delectable. Pad Thai with shrimp was heavenly. The dish literally explodes with flavor. Spicy, savory with subtle sweetness and acidity from the tamarind sauce. Noodles were cooked perfectly to my liking and the sauce is nothing short of sensational. Topped with fried tofu and bean sprouts for added freshness and crunch. Another favorite was their Dry Red Curry with tofu. You can taste the freshness of the lemongrass and that delicious dry curry paste…spicy, sweet, savory, and goes perfectly well with the rice. Green beans retained its fresh green hue and cooked beautifully while keeping its perfect crunch.

Gratitude to Ginger Thai for this delicious lunch. Every dish teems with flavor, and the spice, just perfect for my taste. It’s awesome that patrons can select a spice level to their preference. Great job guys! Each time my wife and I yearn a taste of Thai, we know where our palates will take us.
