3 of Taipei’s Themed Restaurants That’s Worth Checking Out

May 2, 2020

You never go hungry when visiting Taipei. Street corners lined up with eateries from budget friendly street food choices to a more opulent upscale dining.

Thanks to the evident fascination to Japan’s trend for themed restaurants, the Taiwanese captured the idea, turned it up a notch, and with a touch of ingenuity came up with some awesome ideas of their own. You’ll be so amazed at some of these themed restaurants that you have to check it out for yourself to believe.

When visiting Taipei, you’re in for a treat at these themed restaurants serving good food in a whimsical fashion.

A popular chain with more than 10 locations in Taiwan alone, the Modern Toilet offers a dining scene where you can enjoy your curry in a miniature toilet bowl. Talk about disgustingly tasty, this restaurant brings a whole new definition of bringing food in a toilet when you are literally eating in one! That’s toilet humor at its best.

With porcelain thrones as seats and walls decorated with hilarious murals, I can’t think of a better place to enjoy a chocolate soft served ice cream in a miniature urinal especially on a hot and humid day in Taipei.

The food is nothing spectacular but the experience and the fun we had is well worth the price. The curry we tried was okay but you can never go wrong with desserts. Try their chocolate-flavored Toilet Number 1 . This monstrous “poo” can really satisfy your sweet tooth.

Alice is Coming embodies the magical wonderland in the famous novel, Alice in Wonderland. Indulge yourself within Alice’s dream with meals served inside booths designed to look like oversized tea cups. The food plays along with the theme with vibrant food offerings and gorgeous desserts with arrangements accentuated by card suits.

The restaurant is decorated with Alice in Wonderland artwork including oversized forks and card suit guards including the Red Knights. The floor and tables have the distinct checkered patterns. Even staff and waitresses are dressed in blue maid uniforms.

When visiting Alice is Coming, be sure to order their mouthwatering chocolate-banana waffle and mixed strawberry pancakes.

Cuteness overload within the city of Taipei. The Rilakkuma Cafe is themed after Rilakkuma, a Japanese anime teddy bear who I admittedly know nothing about except that he is pretty darn cute and looks pretty chill.

Each dish at this cafe is spiced up with an abundance of cuteness with the rice made to look like our main character. Each one is indeed a work of art with an outstanding “Instagrammability”. Booths and countertops adorned with Rilakkuma plushies and figurines. There is also a gift shop on site with all the Rilakkuma keepsakes you can purchase.

Be sure to satiate your sweet tooth with a cute their delicious Korilakkuma Strawberry Cheese Cake.
